Machete Kills Theatrical Display And Posters Come Home

Hello All:

So as some of you may know, I saw the Machete Kills film a couple of weeks ago, and it was pretty good (just cover your eyes when it gets gory if you have a sensitive stomach) and so I asked to get the promo display before it got sent to the dumpster. This is what the display looks like!

I finally got it last night.

It was quite an experience!
The manager called me from the theater, he explained that Machete's last day was the 31st, and that they could now get rid of the display. I drove down there, with bungee cords and an old sheet, and not knowing HOW i was gonna manage to bring it home. (I knew it had to fold down somehow, but I wasn't sure how well it was gonna fit into my little Sentra!

I arrived and was led a to a locked up room, where, on it's side, was the whole seven foot display. it was kind of heavy, but the manager helped me drag it sideways into a side hall, which was unoccupied (everyone was inside the theaters watching films) and he told me to stay out of people's way while I dismantled it.

Then he left me to it.
Whoa... This was a really nice well-made non-flimsy super well-built display!
Every 5 inches was a folded down place where the cardboard inserted into the cardboard panel behind it, so it took me about 25 minutes to dismantle the entire thing. I even had to crawl inside of it (passersby laughed at my butt) to get the inside unhooked from itself. Of course i withdrew and laughingly explained myself, and the teens who had laughed actually began to take notice and commended the idea of saving it from the dumpster.

Eventually it was all broken down, (it had prescored fold lines where it had originally been packed) and I carried out the pieces to the car... where I carefully bungee-corded half of it to stick out my trunk... covered in a sheet... and protected by bagged air packing supplies from work (literally bags of air that come in strips, to cushion mailing things) I was just about to leave when the manager stopped me.

"So, you got your Machete display?" he called out.

"Yes, thanks! I just loaded it into my car!"

"You know, I think we might have got some posters shipped to us for it that we never used. Do you want them too?"

"Sure!" I replied, excited... Maybe a Gaga one was in there?

"Follow me to the back room here."

I followed, and he unlocked a door where dozens of tubes lay against the walls. He was in there for a while, but when he came out he was unfurling a really cool poster of Sofia Vergara (Desdemona) from Machete Kills.

(The poster here has the wrong date, mine reads October 4th.
This film was delayed so many times, there are posters all over Ebay with dates of September 13th, October 4th, and October 11th. This Desdemona is the 'tame' one, her breasts are not spewing fire, as they are in some other posters.)

"We were sent these, but we never put them up because the film didn't have a good audience in this city." (I live in an extremely conservative area)
"...So we just had the display you took, which we had to put up. These were optional."

We chatted for a while about the film, my interest in Gaga, the acting of Danny Trejo, and the plight of throwing away art in dumpsters... and generally became friends.
He ended up giving me seven unused posters from the film, which I loaded into the backseat, and will be using as excellent Christmas gifts, Secret Santa gifts, and future prizes for the forums. Oh, yeah, and some of them are going on my walls!

I had to order the Gaga Chameleon one from Ebay. I bought it for $35.00 , and the seller threw in a poster of 'She', aka Michelle Rodriguez, to sweeten the deal.
The Gaga poster is huge, you can see it here:

I'm pretty certain there are more than one Gaga Chameleon poster, as this one I bought from Ebay has the Chameleon misspelled, as 'Cameleon', with no H.
There are some online that have different dates (ie. Sept. 13th) and the 'H' in Chameleon.

Anyway, Machete Kills is set to be removed from theaters very soon, if not already! So get your hineys down to your local theater and ask for that promo stuff, it's very rare and valuable!
