Gagaween 2015
Welcome to the 4th annual GAGAween celebration on GagaDaily!
This year our theme was "American Horror Story". (Fitting, hunh?)
We challenged the collective talents and minds of members across GagaDaily and the Internet to submit to us their versions of Lady Gaga songs mixed with themes, soundbites, concepts, or impressions from AHS or Halloween in general. The result was another memorable mixtape of epic proportions that runs one hour and thirteen minutes, and is Itunes ready to be burned onto a CD-R and grace the halls of your Halloween party.
Our very special thanks go out to professional remixer Jeremy Henry aka "Haus Of Glitch", @hausofglitch, whose creative mashes in electronic glitch and traditional electro/house have been recognized across the Internet. We would also like to thank mood remixer Blvck Ceiling, YT remixer Darkus Marque, and all of the GagaDaily members whose works are on the album.
This years' cover art was conceptualized and drawn by @Wolf , with fonts by myself.

Great mix featuring Kathy Bates, Lady Gaga, and those illfated Swedish girls. Note the perfect counterpoint of a hotel bell.
2. Bloody Mary (American Horror Story Remix) by ZephyrTay
Really expert mash of strings and soundclips of the AHS Hotel soundtrack against Bloody Mary, with a pedantic spooky crawl driving the sound. Love this one. Taylor, you've done it again, many thanks!
3. Scheisse (Gaga vs Marilyn Manson) by Bornthisway135
This one is a driving force of creepy rough guitar lead that blends to into a sort of hip pop version of Scheisse, in the theme of scary sounds, you can hear bones crushing in the background. Imagine pumping this at your Halloween party!
4. Paparazzi (The Hotel Hunt Remix) by HausOfGlitch
Quite possibly my favorite track, *although right now I have a revolving favorite 5 tracks on this album!* this single song right here sums up the predatory nature of the Countess of Hotel Cortez. Pulse of electro and perfectly timed AHS quotes turn this version of Paparazzi into an all too real description of a woman on the prowl... "Take you down, chase you down, take it down until you love me" has never run more true when imagined from the Countess' lips.
"That's the part you save for me." Unf. Well done, VampGa!
Mr. Haus of Glitch Jeremy has created a masterpiece here. Catch the Alfred Hitchcock shoutout, anyone?
5. Judas (Gagaween 2011 Remix) by YouTube's iluvladygaga156
Many of you who know me will know one of my favorite pastimes is searching up old forgotten Lady Gaga remixes through search engines and web archives. I found one of the very first Gagaween conceptual remixes, running about 10 minutes long, made by a Youtuber, with an unbelievably still working Mediafire link. This MF link gave me the raw .wav , which I sifted through to pull out what I found to be the best segment: this harsh synth pulser of a Judas remix, with samples from 1957's horror flick "The Brain From Planet Arous". Yes, I know it's not AHS, but it's a necromancer piece that fits right into our groove on this album, leading us seamlessly to the next retro track. Bonus: Gaga's voice looped backwards makes you think she's speaking in tongues -- extra creepy effect!
6. Do What You Want (With My Spooky Scary Skeletons)
This one was made back in 2014, by GagaDaily's currently absent member @GuyAboveYou , who used to go by the username AnythingGoes. Thanks to @Mariann, I was able to find this great overlay of Spooky Scary Skeletons (Disney, circa 1929) on top of the instrumental from DWUW. Again a necromanced piece, this one adds levity to the mix and would do well as a dance number.
7. Poker Face (Von Langfeld Remix)
Great creative mix by one of our remixers here on GGD, @VonLangfeld. The sped up / slowed down "puhs" of Poker Face are the standout and the driving dirty undersynth is stretched out to a nice house-y length that would sound great blasted and thumped at a Gagaween party!
8. Off Your Face (Michael Jackson vs Lady Gaga) by Youtube's Darkus Marque
No Halloween mixtape is complete without Michael. This one blends elements of Poker Face and Born This Way with a little twist of Halloween at the end. Nice danceable groove, again great for Gaga themed Halloween parties or pop music themed parties!
9. Heavy Metal Halloween Interlude (by Haus Of Glitch)
Suspense building interlude for Glitchie's next work. This is actually one of the few times Heavy Metal Lover has been remixed by fans around here, it's honestly rarely touched in the catalogue.
10. Teeth (Haus Of Glitch Hotel Lounge Mix)
Another rarely-ever remixed Gaga tune, this version of a very AHS Teeth is perfectly in sync with the Countess and her conquests. Kudos to HausOfGlitch for the creative leap in this one, and the addition of "B*tch please, you're only immortal... if you're smart."
11. Bye, Fernando (Blvck Ceiling Remix)
A truly haunting mood remix by the epic remixer Blvck Ceiling, aka Daniel Cuccia. This one is part of a larger set called Gaga Ocean Max Beta, which is available here for your listening pleasure if you are so inclined. The gorgeous clashes of powerful synth crash behind an androgynous Gaga acapella, calling after Alejandro and his crew. The mood is dark and creepy, and yet faintly optimistic.
12. Scheisse (Gagaween Von Langfeld Remix)
Made especially for Gagaween, this is Von's latest, complete with spooking dripping blood sound effects and skittering bats...minimal Scheisse is maximally spooky. Perfect background for the Halloween party!
13. Government Purge (Jordan Howe Tribute Remix) by GagaDaily's Brad
Touching and vividly scary tribute to our fallen angel, Jordan Howe.
From the remixer himself:
I wanted this to be an homage to Jordan Howe since I know she would love to blow us all away with her amazing remixes each Gagaween. [Jordan] has made some of the best Gaga remixes and edits I've ever heard.
I wanted [this] to be a more of "the american government is screwed up like a horror story" kinda thing. Hope that makes sense. The theme 'The Purge' is real, and that is a true "American horror" story. Samples from The Purge, Thriller, & the Brodie Dagr Extended Club Mix of Government Hooker.
14. Tear You Apart (AHS Countess Theme Song) by She Wants Revenge
Gaga's small screen debut and fearsome bedroom antics had this creepy goth rock oozing behind her, and I've included it here at the request of many who feel it wouldn't be an AHS themed album without it! Circa 2006, enjoying a revival now, thanks to AHS.
15. "Dead Gaga" Gagaween Blvck Ceiling Megamix by SoundCloud's AerykOne
This has a hilarious mock news piece on the death of Lady Gaga.... that morphs into a chilling Black Jesus Amen Fashion spoken word remix for Gaga Mugler (Sometimes... my heart is so black... in the dunes of time... Mugler...)
Then AerykOne samples heavily from Blvck Ceilings' Gaga Ocean Max Beta EP, which is well rounded and interspersed with creepy additions.

Taylor Swift Completely Slays Los Angeles

The fresh-faced, optimistic purveyor of millennial girl power (otherwise known as Taylor Swift) enthralled Los Angeles on the final night of five back to back shows at Staples Center on Wednesday night. Pulling out more surprise guests (Kudrow! Gomez! Timberlake!) and memorable moments than previous shows combined, she didn't let the audience down in the slightest.
I had the pleasure of getting a last minute ticket to see Miss TayTay, and I am rather shocked to say, I didn't expect how much she bowled me over. I think I am now a pleasantly surprised fan of Taylor Swift. How could I resist the catchy tunes, the definite songwriting chops, and the way she genuinely captures the emotions and truths of not only her generation, but generations older than she is? All this in one delightfully spunky and playful bundle of 25 year old energy? Where have I been?
Well, you all know I've been writing and blogging about things in the Gaga Universe here and on other fansites. But this show moved me to the point that I really felt it deserved a good exploration and writeup, too.
What a blast! Let me tell you about it:
Taylor used a nice slow-burning build at the beginning of the concert. Much as The Monster Ball began in darkness, so does the 1989 Tour. Dimly lit city backdrops and honking car horns teased at the first track off 1989... "New York".
I have never seen a crowd go as stark-raving batpoop as this one. Ever. Remember how the Beatles felt at Shea Stadium, unable to hear their own instruments! Being there was something like being in an oceanic power surge of screaming, crying, hysterical, uncontrollable female energy. Taylor knew this, and to avoid causing them to reach critical mass, she actually had to begin singing "New York" slowly. Stopping and starting her vocals as the instrumental pushed on around her, she paused after she said each line, to allow the crowd to continue to go crazy and ultimately absorb the fact that she was existing in front of them!
She put on a magnificent show. Check out some of these shots:
Here is what she had to say:
'Cuz that's what we do, isn't it? That's why we're all here. Because when we feel extreme pain or extreme joy, we turn to music. And that's why we are here in this arena together tonight. That's the one thing we've got in common. Looking at you, it's impossible to pick one age group, or one possible group to talk to, because the coolest thing about looking at you is that everybody is at a different place in their life. Everybody's got different hobbies, individual sets of hopes, dreams, wishes, fears, doubts, regrets... all of it. And I guess, I just look at you, and I never want you to go through anything bad. Ever. And I know that's so naive, but... I guess... I look at you and I know, I know how tricky happiness can be, to find, in two thousand fifteen. Because we have so many ways of looking at what someone else has going on, and maybe feeling like our life comes up short. Or feeling like maybe other people have it all together, and we don't know where we are going with our life. Feeling like we have all these insecurities and we are just walking around the world hoping that no one else can see them, like, "God, how long am I going to be at this party before people realize I'm not cool?!"
The crowd went nuts. For the second time of many in the evening.
"Don't be too hard on yourself if you make a mistake. Don't focus too much on your regrets, learn from them. Sometimes, in our heads, we get this idea, that there is [something] like an invisible record, and we get strikes against it when we mess up, but that's not how it works. We learn lessons from the times we mess up. No one has a spotless life. And if you consider yourself damaged or tarnished because you've made mistakes in your life, that's just not how it is. I think it's the opposite. I think that if you make mistakes and you learn from them, that makes you wiser, and stronger. And brave for taking those risks in the first place, don't you think?"
You can listen below... it did seem a bit risque to hear Taylor singing some of that song, but I guess she has to grow up sometimes! (Edit: Insert Wildest Dreams video here now that it's 8-30-2015...!)
But the moment of the night had to be this: Taylor Swift introduced the one and only Justin Timberlake.
Performing for the first time since the birth of his new baby, JT caused pandemonium when he came out to sing his song "Mirror".
I walked away from the show that night surrounded by people of all ages who had smiles on their faces, singing impromptu, and talking non stop about how great it all was. Taylor Swift charmed and entertained Los Angeles, with true "Style" ... and now she has a permanent banner on the wall of Staples Center to prove it.
Like Gaga, Taylor has had some massive achievements at a relatively young age, and, like Gaga, Taylor bringing to light important messages of self esteem, tolerance, and bravery to all generations. I know I will forward to the next time Taylor comes into town to sell that 17th show!

One thing that struck me as incredible (should I really have been surprised?) was the great similarity in the speeches of self empowerment and discovery that Gaga pioneered for all of us a few years ago -- I heard that echoed beautifully, like the same light shining in a different facet -- through Taylor Swift's voice.
Here is what she had to say:
"I had a feeling about you, I really did. I had a feeling that this was the one, this was the crowd. (laughs) You know, looking at you.... one of my favorite things about this tour is that I decided that I wanted to light everybody up. I wanted to illuminate everybody. So, one thing I love about that, is that I'm not looking out into a vast, endless sea of darkness that screams... and dances... and I can't really see it -- I can see all the things that you are doing. And I love it. You think I can't see you up there, that's incorrect, yeah! Yup. And because of this, because I can see every single one of you, it makes me start thinking about you. Individually. And then my mind starts to wonder about your backstory. Like, if you're back in school yet, or if you have work off tomorrow, or if you are here with your friends, Or how it long it took you to make the costumes you've got, where you are wrapped in Christmas lights, all that... If you've got, like, glitter and puffy paint all over your house because you made signs... yep. Lookin' at you. And then I start thinking about other things. Like the fact that maybe you traveled a really long distance to be at this particular show. And then I think about the fact that maybe, there is a possibility you listened to my music at really high, high times in your life or really low, low ones in your life.

This is coming from someone who loves the internet, because it gives me a chance to talk to you to know you, even if you live far away... but the one thing that I want, is for you to not get hateful comments, or terrible, terrible criticisms I don't want anyone to ever tell you that you are not what you should be. But, that's how life is, and we go through and we try to do the best that we can. All I am saying is, there are enough people that are cruel, and mean, and critical of you. If you could possibly just be kind to yourself -- as much as you possibly can, that would make me so happy."

What a unique way of looking at it! Just as Gaga has, she's taken views we've had and stood them on their heads.
She then launched in to "Mean". We understood where she was coming from, just as easily as if she really was our friend. She played dexterously, and soulfully, and gave such an honest performance that the fans stood mostly raptured all around me.
Being at a Taylor Swift concert is something similar to being at a old time church revival. All around me there were girls crying, tears streaming down their faces, as they mouthed every word of every song back at her. Yes, I've experienced this at Gaga concerts, but somehow this one was just a little different. Perhaps it was because how many younger girls were in the audience. By young, I mean anywhere from 8 to 16... the kind of young where you feel everything so much more powerfully, perhaps just because you are going through puberty or you are transitioning between kid to adult, experiencing all the pressures that go along with that. The parents and grandparents didn't look bored, either, and everyone was enjoying those awesome light up bracelets that pulsed with each drumbeat.

At one point, the music built, almost suspensefully, and Taylor declared to the crowd: "This artist has never performed her hit song of the summer live before!"
Of course the crowd went INSANE... as young pop star Selena Gomez walked out and began a duet with Taylor of her new tune "Good For You".

Taylor knew everyone was hyped about her special guests, and she is a tease! "I think you are in the mood for another surprise! This singer hasn't ever played anything except coffeehouses before..."
Lisa Kudrow, best known for playing Phoebe Buffay on the hit 90's show "Friends", treated us to a rendition of her cult classic "Smelly Cat". Check it out below!

Gaga Street Posters In Los Angeles, 12-1-2011 (One of my first articles)

So really I'm not sure where the right place is to put my little story but I guess Gaga Thoughts will work.
I am a failed poster thief. (well, let's call it "liberator") :haha:
I have been successful in the past, (2004 Gwen Stefani Wango Tango bus stop poster, countless Lion King store displays, the odd newspaper stand promo (actually I have asked for most of those, save Gwennie)) but today was a particularly crushing defeat.
Mostly because these posters I saw today, unlike all my other conquests, were of Gaga.
And they were so damn big and beautiful. Oh my god.
Anyway, I was out on a doctor's appointment trip to the Cedars Sinai Medical Plaza Towers in Los Angeles. Specifically, at the intersection of Hamel Street and the 8600 block of 3rd Street. (right in front of the big black twin medical towers)
Hidden under some scaffolding at a construction site across the street, were 3 beautiful huge images of Gaga's pyro-tits bra and the letters Lady Gaga, advertising The HBO Special, The Remix of Born This Way, and Born This Way -- The Collection.
SO nice looking amidst all the dust and wood and ugly pipes and working men.
I had to try to get one. Or all of them :crazy: so the second I popped my relative into the cardiologist's office, I snuck out on the pretense of using the restroom, and seeing the snail's pace of the elevators, opted for the stairs, flying down 10 flights to street level. Panting a bit, I emerged into the daylight to see my quarry right across the street!

What a great poster, no? Sure isn't for sale in any store, either. These are some of the rarest posters in the movie/film/TV/music memorabilia world to get in your collections. Why, you may ask?
Because they are almost never saved by anyone, except possibly the lucky few printing company employees who take one or two for themselves or friends. They aren't meant to be taken down, just repostered over by more paper and glue. Street posters, like this Gaga one, are generally made of the same paper that was once used universally in postage stamps: thin paper with water activated adhesives coating the back. This paper can easily be applied with a bucket of shellac-type glue and Swiffer-type mop. In most big cities like LA and NYC, this is done by a guy and a truck at 3am, when the streets are deserted. Unless you just happen to be in the streets at that time and have a nice cash present for the Swiffer-mop poster guy -- you are going to have a hard time getting one of these.
Which is exactly what I had -- a very hard time. Approaching the poster, I tested the edges with my pocket knife I always keep in my backpack, and discovered to my disgust that the Gaga poster was very thin paper indeed, and securely glazed into place by an even coating of thick clear hardened glue. The Gaga poster was pasted over posters older and thinner and more brittle than it was, and these were hardened and stuck to a very splintery plywood board. I stared at it and kept feeling around with my knife for purchase, which just wasn't there.
By this time, I could tell people around me thought I was a little strange. The Latino construction workers were sniggering on their scaffoldings above me; and people waiting for crosswalk signals seemed to be riveted by me. Perhaps they were wondering just what was so great about this poster that I seemed oblivious to the leaky pipes dripping questionable droplets on my head as I sliced at it.
One worker above my head answered the others in laughter: "La senora quires Gaga!"
Translation: "The lady wants Gaga!"
Oh, guapo, you have no idea, mehan! I thought to myself as I tried for 15 minutes, getting cuts and scrapes on my fingers, trying to pry up the edges and free the poster. But the harder I tried the worse it became, with the poster ripping itself up more than it was tearing away from the wall. It was stuck so very well that any attempt to peel it off just peeled off strips instead of the panels I wanted. (You can see in one of the side view images the poster where I tried in vain to tear it off the plywood wall.)
I had to give up. Believe me I hated to, but even CrazySkas knows when she's beaten. :haha:
So I settled for taking pictures of it to show all of you, and decided this:
If anyone has a good chainsaw, or likes to sneak around at 3am waiting for Swiffer Mops and a truck --
this rare street poster could be yours!

I, in the meantime, am going to google "street poster printers" and see what happens :haha:

I have been successful in the past, (2004 Gwen Stefani Wango Tango bus stop poster, countless Lion King store displays, the odd newspaper stand promo (actually I have asked for most of those, save Gwennie)) but today was a particularly crushing defeat.
Mostly because these posters I saw today, unlike all my other conquests, were of Gaga.
And they were so damn big and beautiful. Oh my god.
Anyway, I was out on a doctor's appointment trip to the Cedars Sinai Medical Plaza Towers in Los Angeles. Specifically, at the intersection of Hamel Street and the 8600 block of 3rd Street. (right in front of the big black twin medical towers)
Hidden under some scaffolding at a construction site across the street, were 3 beautiful huge images of Gaga's pyro-tits bra and the letters Lady Gaga, advertising The HBO Special, The Remix of Born This Way, and Born This Way -- The Collection.
SO nice looking amidst all the dust and wood and ugly pipes and working men.
I had to try to get one. Or all of them :crazy: so the second I popped my relative into the cardiologist's office, I snuck out on the pretense of using the restroom, and seeing the snail's pace of the elevators, opted for the stairs, flying down 10 flights to street level. Panting a bit, I emerged into the daylight to see my quarry right across the street!

What a great poster, no? Sure isn't for sale in any store, either. These are some of the rarest posters in the movie/film/TV/music memorabilia world to get in your collections. Why, you may ask?
Because they are almost never saved by anyone, except possibly the lucky few printing company employees who take one or two for themselves or friends. They aren't meant to be taken down, just repostered over by more paper and glue. Street posters, like this Gaga one, are generally made of the same paper that was once used universally in postage stamps: thin paper with water activated adhesives coating the back. This paper can easily be applied with a bucket of shellac-type glue and Swiffer-type mop. In most big cities like LA and NYC, this is done by a guy and a truck at 3am, when the streets are deserted. Unless you just happen to be in the streets at that time and have a nice cash present for the Swiffer-mop poster guy -- you are going to have a hard time getting one of these.
Which is exactly what I had -- a very hard time. Approaching the poster, I tested the edges with my pocket knife I always keep in my backpack, and discovered to my disgust that the Gaga poster was very thin paper indeed, and securely glazed into place by an even coating of thick clear hardened glue. The Gaga poster was pasted over posters older and thinner and more brittle than it was, and these were hardened and stuck to a very splintery plywood board. I stared at it and kept feeling around with my knife for purchase, which just wasn't there.
By this time, I could tell people around me thought I was a little strange. The Latino construction workers were sniggering on their scaffoldings above me; and people waiting for crosswalk signals seemed to be riveted by me. Perhaps they were wondering just what was so great about this poster that I seemed oblivious to the leaky pipes dripping questionable droplets on my head as I sliced at it.
One worker above my head answered the others in laughter: "La senora quires Gaga!"
Translation: "The lady wants Gaga!"
Oh, guapo, you have no idea, mehan! I thought to myself as I tried for 15 minutes, getting cuts and scrapes on my fingers, trying to pry up the edges and free the poster. But the harder I tried the worse it became, with the poster ripping itself up more than it was tearing away from the wall. It was stuck so very well that any attempt to peel it off just peeled off strips instead of the panels I wanted. (You can see in one of the side view images the poster where I tried in vain to tear it off the plywood wall.)
I had to give up. Believe me I hated to, but even CrazySkas knows when she's beaten. :haha:
So I settled for taking pictures of it to show all of you, and decided this:
If anyone has a good chainsaw, or likes to sneak around at 3am waiting for Swiffer Mops and a truck --
this rare street poster could be yours!

I, in the meantime, am going to google "street poster printers" and see what happens :haha:
Maybe I can haggle one directly from a source. These blasted gorgeous posters don't just make and hang themselves! :haha:
